Want More Expert Knowledge On The Topic Of Acid Reflux?

Sadly, there are many people who have acid reflux. The condition is so common that many people just live with the condition, letting it pass whenever they get it. These people may not know that there are actually ways to treat this condition. You can learn about these treatment methods in the following article.

You may need to balance out hydrochloric acid amounts in your body if you want to reduce acid reflux and its symptoms. You can do this, for instance, by using sea salt rather than table salt. Sea salt has chloride and minerals that are good for the stomach and prevent acid.

There are some foods which people who suffer from acid reflux must avoid. These include high-fat foods, alcohol, drinks with caffeine, anything with mint in it, chocolate, citrus, anything with tomato in it, foods with spices in them, peppers, garlic, carbonated drinks and onions. You may find your acid reflux flares with many other foods as well, so make a list.

If you plan to exercise rigorously, drink lots of water while you work out. This not only hydrates you; it helps to aid in digestion. It also washes acid down and out of your esophagus, keeping it in your stomach where it belongs. If this still doesn’t help, talk to your doctor about medications.

The feeling of a heart attack can be mimicked by severe reflux pain. Don’t ignore really bad chest pains. You should not assume that the symptoms of a heart attack are in fact acid reflux. Talk to a doctor to learn how to handle the situation. Diagnosis of serious symptoms should never be done without the advice of a doctor.

Refrain from consuming foods that have a high acid content if you want to alleviate your acid reflux during the night. Some of these foods include fruits such as grapefruit and oranges. These fruits can cause the burn that you feel, especially if you have them right before you lie down.

Shed excess pounds to decrease the impact of acid reflux. One of the main causes of acid reflux is obesity. Losing even one-tenth of body weight can reduce acid reflux. Don’t engage in fad diets. Instead, control your weight by eating small and sensible meals several times daily.

You should stay away from alcohol if you suffer from acid reflux. Alcohol can cause havoc on your stomach, which can hurt your digestive capabilities. If you are going out with friends, limit your alcohol intake if you want to feel good when you get home.

Acid reflux can be devastating in your life. Not only is the pain from heartburn a concern, but the danger of contracting gastroesophageal reflux disease is extremely high. If left untreated, you could develop cancer of the esophagus. If you think, you have problems with acid reflux, you need to visit a doctor soon.

Consume smaller meals to help control your acid reflux problems. When you over stuff yourself during a meal, it can often lead to uncomfortable digestive upset, including acid reflux. Instead, consider eating several small meals a day, and always stop eating as soon as you begin to feel satisfied.

Watch out for foods that trigger your acid reflux. For most people, these include fried and fatty foods, caffeinated and/or carbonated beverages, citrus juices, spicy foods, etc. There may be other foods and drinks that cause your acid reflux, so just be mindful of what you are eating. If you notice that a particular food or drink is worsening your acid reflux, stop consuming it.

For children who have acid reflux disease, the only thing that may work for them is time. When a person is younger, their digestive systems have not yet matured. This makes it easier for acid to produce, thus, increase acid reflux symptoms. Once they get older, the problem should go away.

If you’re pregnant, the baby may be pushing on your stomach causing acid reflux. Ask your doctor what you should if it happens to you.

Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day if you want to get rid of acid reflux. Water is important to help reduce toxins and acid that is in your stomach and causing your constant heartburn. Consume water when you wake up, during your meals and right before you to go bed for maximum effectiveness.

Relax as much as you can. By eating meals when overly stressed out, you are more likely to experience acid reflux. As soon as you finish eating, perform relaxation exercises, such as meditation, yoga, or deep-breathing exercises. Don’t lay down after you’ve eaten. Remain upright.

No one should have to live with acid reflux. The condition may happen to millions, but that doesn’t mean you have to give in to it. Acid reflux is nothing but a temporary annoyance. Take control of your digestive system by using this article’s tips. Your body with thank you with relief.

Best Acid Reflux Treatment

Do you have an acid reflux problem? If you do, then you likely have suffered through many days with that feeling in your throat. It can lead to larger problems, and it’s time that you took control over your life and your acid reflux. There are ways to make sure this problem is gone for good, so keep reading.

You may need to change your diet if you suffer from acid reflux disease. Sugary and processed foods increase the amount of acid that is produced in your stomach, the cause of acid reflux disease. Fruits and vegetables are great foods to eat that do not cause or worsen acid reflux.

Fatty foods no more! Fried chicken, pizza, chicken wings and potato chips are the enemy of the GERD sufferer. These foods cause your sphincter to relax, allowing the contents of your stomach, acid and all, to rise back up into your esophagus. Go for meals full of vegetables and lean protein instead.

Turn to aloe vera juice for a soothing way to heal the damage acid reflux can cause. It reduces inflammation in the esophagus and the lining of the stomach itself. All you need is a half a cup before a meal to aid in your digestive regeneration, but remember that it is also a laxative!

Sometimes people that have acid reflux attacks mistakenly believe they are having a cardiac event. You should not ignore chest pains. These could be the signs of a heart attack. Talk to a doctor to learn how to handle the situation. You could have a serious issue on your hands and not even know it.

Avoid eating large quantities of food that contain a lot of acid. This may cause you to experience heartburn and other acid reflux symptoms. These foods include grapefruit, vinegar, lemons and tomatoes. If you are going to eat these foods, make sure that you are very mindful of the portion size.

Try to keep yourself elevated when going to bed. Sometimes it could be enough to just add a pillow or two to help you. However, sometimes you may need to have pillows or cushions set up to help you sleep in a sitting position. You might also want to consider sleeping in a recliner on some of your bad days.

While eating your meals, limit your beverage consumption. Although this may sound silly, drinking lots of beverages during your meals can actually cause acid reflux. This is because liquids increase the volume of food in your stomach. When your stomach is full, the lower esophageal sphincter has more pressure placed upon it. This muscle prevents food from coming up through your esophagus, which prevents acid reflux. You need to protect your lower esophageal sphincter as much as possible.

People with acid reflux should not lie down after eating a great deal of food. Laying down can make it hard for your digestive system to work properly. Keeping yourself upright can help you keep the acid out of your esophagus.

If you suffer from acid reflux should try to limit the amount of beverages that you consume with your meals. The liquid will increase stomach distension and will add volume to your food. This puts more pressure on your esophagus. When there is more pressure on your esophagus, it is harder to keep your food down.

Chew a stick of gum if you feel like your acid reflux issue is not under control at night. A stick of gum can increase the amount of saliva that you have in your mouth, which can help push down the acid that is getting into your esophagus from your stomach.

Try to drink mostly in between meals if you suffer from acid reflux. When your stomach is full of food an liquid, the lower esophageal sphincter is under constant pressure. This can cause it to allow the food and acid in your stomach to come back up into your esophagus and destroy the lining within.

When working out to help your acid reflux, be cautious of what and when you consume food and beverages. Eating too soon or eating and drinking the wrong things can negate the positive effects of exercise for your reflux. You should wait at least two hours after a workout to eat. Don’t drink sports drinks since their acidity can trigger your reflux.

Speak to a doctor if you feel like your acid reflux is not improving from the antacids that you are taking on a daily basis. Sometimes, you may need a serious form of medication that you doctor can prescribe, which can improve your symptoms. A professional’s diagnosis may be the solution to your acid reflux issues.

Now that you’ve been told the tips that have been given to you in this article, you need to focus on a good plan for making sure that you bring them to fruition. You don’t want to suffer through your acid reflux any more of your days. Put the information you’ve read to good use as you work towards a better life without acid reflux.

Foods That Heal Acid Reflux

Using Coconut For Acid Reflux Relief

Coconuts grow in abundance in tropical countries like the Philippines. People in these areas found plenty of uses for coconuts from its trunk, leaves and fruits. Not a single part of the coconut plant is wasted as all of it has specific uses. Recent developments have brought the attention of Americans to the medical values of the coconut fruit. In the past years, clinical studies showed that components of the coconut have remarkable effects as antihistamines, anti-infectives/antiseptics, enhances and strengthens the immune system as well as a glucocortcoid antagonist. Recently, coconuts are also found to be effective in relieving acid reflux symptoms.
What is acid reflux? Acid reflux is caused by common irritation on the walls of the esophagus, which comes about after consuming a meal or a snack. Acid reflux is commonly known as heartburn, which is often characterized by the tightening of the chest couple with difficulty in breathing. For some patients, acid reflux symptoms may include a burning sensation in the stomach and in the esophagus, vomiting and the general feeling of being so full. Physicians and other medical practitioners explain acid reflux as a result of the failure of the Lower Esophageal Sphincter or LES to remain closed. By nature, the Sphincter closes and locks away acid and food into the digestive system. However, when an abnormality occurs and the sphincter fails to close, food seep back into the esophagus and causes that burning sensation which we commonly call as heartburns. Heartburns are usually associated with poor digestion.

How does coconut relieve acid reflux? In tropical countries, people rely on coconuts to relieve gas pains and heartburns. There are two ways of administering coconut as a form of relief for acid reflux. First, coconut oil can be applied as a form of liniment on the stomach of the person suffering from acid reflux and second, it can be taken internally in the form of virgin coconut oil. In administering coconut oil as a form of liniment, you need to prepare the solution by extracting the oil from the coconut fruit. Local practices involved in extracting oil from the coconut fruit involve grating the pulp of a mature coconut fruit and then squeezing the milk out from the grated pulp. The milk extracted from the coconut pulp will not be strained to make sure that no solids are left. The coconut milk is then cooked in slowly in a low fire until the milk evaporates, leaving the oil behind. The coconut oil extracted will not be used as liniment for relieving acid reflux by inducing the sufferer to belch.

The second form of applying coconut to relieve acid reflux is to ingest it in the form of virgin coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil can be extracted from the coconut fruit by placing the coconut milk and in an even container for 48 hours until the cream, the water and the oil separates naturally. The oil extracted through this process is a potent anti-oxidant. Research shows that coconut oil, especially the one it its purest form is very rich in short and medium chain fatty acids. This shorter chain length allows for faster metabolism and without use of the carnitine transport system, which is associated with the oxidation process. This means that having high quantity of coconut oil in the body would mean high anti-oxidation capacity.

Foods That Cause Acid Reflux

Doctors say acid reflux is affecting so many lives today because of the way people are choosing to eat.  People are on the run all of the time and simply eating things for convenience.  Fast food and unhealthy snacks are easy to scarf down and get on with the day, so that is what people are choosing to eat.  Not only are they full of unhealthy sugars and calories, they are also not good for your digestive system.  In fact, some people are so sensitive to these unhealthy foods that they will have severe acid reflux or indigestion just because of their choice of diet.  If you suffer from these discomforts, there are certain foods you should avoid.  Check out these five foods to avoid when you suffer with acid reflux and get on your way to a better life.

Many people think you should only avoid fast food and spicy foods, however there are many foods that are on the list of “high risk foods for acid reflux” that you wouldn’t even expect to see there.  In fact, many of these foods are considered healthy for a balanced diet.  But, if you are sensitive to them and suffer often from indigestion and acid reflux, they are not the healthiest choice for you.

Fast Foods

Most of what you will get at a fast food place is not too good for your acid reflux.  However, the most inappropriate choices are French fries and greasy burgers.  In addition, fried chicken is not that great for you as well.  When you do have to eat at a fast food joint, consider eating their grilled options.  Most places will offer at least one grilled chicken sandwich on their menu.

 Fruits & Vegetables

As far as vegetables go, potatoes and onions are basically the biggest culprits for acid reflux and heart burn.  In fact, most doctors suggest you avoid both at all costs.  Mashed potatoes seem as if they would be harmless, but they cause a lot of problems when eaten by those who often suffer.  Fruits are more expected with their high content of acid.  Tomatoes, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, and cranberries have the highest acid content and should be avoided by anyone with digestive problems.

There are many people who think drinking milk when they have indigestion is a good idea.  But, there are dairy products that can aggravate your indigestion and acid reflux.  Sour cream and ice cream are two of the biggest problem foods in the dairy category.  Cottage cheese is another thing that may hurt your stomach.

There are a few drinks that can also cause problems when you have severe indigestion.  You should certainly stay away from alcohol.  You can indulge every now and then, but only in small amounts.  Liquor and wine are the worst forms you can drink.  In addition, coffee and tea are also seen to be triggers for acid reflux.

There are not too many desserts that aren’t seen as being bad for acid reflux sufferers.  Chocolate is one of the worst ingredients however to eat.  So, chocolate cakes or brownies can be very harmful to the digestive system.  In addition, anything with a high content of butter is not good for you as well.

Home Remedies for Acid Reflux

In the past years, more and more people are considering alternative medicines to cure different types of illnesses. Most of those people, who turned to alternative medicines, which is usually herbal treatments, swear that their symptoms were cured. Aside from the claims that these herbal treatments are effective, most people using them are convinced that unlike synthetic medicines manufactured by large pharmaceutical corporations, herbal treatments do not have side effects. As herbal treatment continues to become increasingly popular, people having acid reflux problems are now lining up establishments selling alternative medicines for their ailments.
Many people who suffer from acid reflux have stopped taking over the counter or prescription drugs due the numerous side effects these drugs have on the body. According to studies, some antacids interfere with vitamin and calcium absorption of the body. In some instances, antacids affect digestive activities by shutting down stomach secretions thus relieving the sufferers for the time being but not really curing the problem. People also have different reactions to drugs. Some medications will relieve heartburns in some people but may not have the desired effect on others, forcing people to try several brands of antacids in the market thereby further exposing them to hazards. These problems related to antacids often force sufferers to find alternative through herbal treatment where in most cases, a single type of tea or capsule claims to solve many types of health problems. The logic is, the lesser number of medications a person takes in one day, the lesser chances of exposing oneself to toxins. One of the strongest and most widely accepted argument why people should shift to alternative medicines to cure their acid reflux problem is that antacid products use sodium bicarbonate, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, aluminum phosphate, or a combination of these substances to neutralize stomach acid. Scientifically, these types of elements have inhibiting effects on the functions of the human anatomy. For one, hydrochloric acid, which is associated with food digestion and absorption of necessary nutrients and vitamins, is no longer able to perform its vital functions. Another sad truth about hydrochloric acid in the human body is that our bodies have natural coping mechanisms to sustain itself. Where hydrochloric acid is neutralized, the stomach responds has an automatic response mechanism, which is to produce even more acid to compensate for what have been lost. You see, instead of curing the problem, we create another problem. “Acid rebound” is common when the stomach produces more acids to replenish what have been neutralized.

On the other hand, although herbal medications are often not backed with scientific explanations, people see hope in such products. The common selling points of herbal medicines are that these products work by strengthening the body’s immune system. For those advocating herbal treatments, acid reflux is often equated with poor digestion. Targeting and strengthening the digestive system can then prevent acid reflux. Herbal treatment comes in varied forms usually in the form of tea, juice, capsules and food supplements, which these herbal medicine companies claim to be all natural and safe. Accordingly, most of these herbal medicines can be taken anytime without any treats of overdose or side effects.

Good Foods for Acid Reflux

After a person has been diagnosed as having acid reflux, they will need to begin thinking about changing their diet. This can be difficult for some, but not for others. It depends on what a person’s current diet is and then finding ways to alter it to fit into their lifestyle. Once a person has been diagnosed, they should look into buying a few cookbooks for those who suffer from acid reflux. Filled with lists of acceptable and unacceptable food as well as recipes, a person can begin to add other food to their diet and remove ones that will aggravate their stomach.

Foods that are greasy or contain too much daily should be avoided. These foods can cause the acid reflux to return. Too much red meat is also discouraged. For those who enjoy drinking wine or other alcoholic beverages, they should try to drink them in moderation as alcohol can have adverse effects on a person who has acid reflux. Fast foods, such as hamburgers, french fries, and chicken nuggets should also be avoided. While this seems like a lot of food that one would miss, once a person discovers new recipes, they will learn how to prepare food in different ways. It is not only about avoiding certain foods; it is about how they are prepared as well.

This does not mean that all foods that are recommended to be avoided should be. This will depend on the person’s stomach and the kinds of food that bother them. Experimentation is the only way to really tell. But for the most part, this list is a good reference guide especially when eating in a restaurant and not at home. Some food that are on the to be avoided list may be acceptable as long as they are prepared another way. Deep frying most foods will not work for someone who has acid reflux. But baking these foods instead may be better. A person will have to experiment when preparing these foods as well.

Ask the doctor for a list of foods that are to be avoided and a list of foods that are good for those with acid reflux. Eating more vegetables and fruit that is no acidic is actually better for those who have acid reflux. Also ask which beverages should be avoided as well. The more a person knows about the kinds of food they should be eating, they better off they will be. At first, a person will miss eating whatever they feel like during the day. But after a while they will begin enjoying better quality food and will not longer want greasy fast food. They may even develop a fondness for cooking that they never had before. Preparing good food will also make a person healthier in the long term. It is better to miss certain foods than have to go through an acid reflux episode. Acid reflux can always reappear. Eating a healthy diet will help keep the episodes to a minimum and help a person live a long life.

Side Effects of Acid Reflux

If you have symptoms of acid reflux then you shouldn’t ignore them. You should see your doctor right away to receive treatment. Acid reflux can lead to four major complications if it is not treated right away by a medical professional. These complications include esophageal cancer, Barrett’s esophagus, esophagitis and esophageal strictures.

Esophageal cancer is a tumor that starts to grow on the lining of the esophagus. This tumor can eventually grow through the wall of the esophagus which can then cause cancer to spread to other parts of the body through the blood or the lymphatic system. The symptoms of esophageal cancer include heartburn, difficulty swallowing, the inability to swallow solids and eventually liquids, painful swallowing, food sticking in the esophagus, weight loss, regurgitation of food and vomiting of blood or the passing of blood in bowel movements. To diagnose esophageal cancer a doctor will perform four possible tests including endoscopy, barium x-rays, computed tomography and a CT scan. The treatment of esophageal cancer depends largely on what stage it is in at the time the doctor diagnosis it and whether or not it has spread to other organs.

Barrett’s esophagus is a condition where the esophagus changes and some of its lining is replaced by a form of tissue usually only found in the intestine. This process can also be called intestinal metaplasia. Barrett’s esophagus can lead to a rare cancer known as esophageal adenocarcinoma. Barrett’s esophagus is commonly associated with acid reflux. The average age of a person with Barrett’s esophagus is sixty, but this is often because it is difficult for doctors to tell when the process actually started and it is believed it can start earlier in life. It can only be diagnosed through endoscopy or biopsy and even then it can be extremely difficult to diagnose. Most of the time by the time it is diagnosed it is to late to start treatment.

Esophagitis is an inflammation and swelling of the esophagus. This is commonly caused when the acid in the stomach backs up into the esophagus. If left untreated this condition can become very uncomfortable for an individual and it can eventually lead to difficulty swallowing, ulcers in the esophagus or scarring of the esophagus. Symptoms include difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing, burning sensation in esophagus, acid reflux and oral lesions. A doctor will perform an endoscopy, barium x-ray, biopsy or culture to diagnose. Once it is diagnosed it can be treated through medications that reduce the acid caused by acid reflux disease or through the use of antibiotics in the infection is becoming more severe.

Esophageal strictures in the gradual narrowing of the esophagus are a concern as well. These strictures are caused by the scar tissue that builds up in the esophagus. Acid reflux can often cause the tissue scarring that leads to this condition. If the condition gets worse it can lead to inflammation. Symptoms include difficulty or discomfort when swallowing, regurgitation of food and weight loss. A barium x-ray or endoscopy is done to diagnose the condition. Treatment includes the stretching of the esophagus, the prescription of proton pump inhibitors or surgical treatment.

Honey Cure Acid Reflux

There are simple ways to alter your lifestyle to keep acid reflux at bay. Your first step towards attaining comfort again is reading all you can about the condition and the ways in which you can treat it. Start with this article so that you can get a great base of knowledge in place.

Try a spoonful of honey. While there is no hard evidence that honey treats acid reflux, it is very useful to soothe and relieve the painful burning associated with it. Honey will coat your esophagus in a protective and soothing layer, and help neutralize some of the acid. If you are looking for some relief until you can identify and treat the cause of your heartburn, a little honey can be just what you need to get back to sleep.

If you have acid reflux disease, you may want to consider using Proton Pump Inhibitors, or PPIs. This is a medication is prescribed your doctor and is used to stop stomach acid from getting into your intestines and stomach. Obviously, if there is no acid in your stomach, it cannot come up through the esophagus either.

Chew your food. The more you chew your food, the less work your stomach will have to do. This also slows down the rate at which you are eating, which allows your stomach to keep up with its fullness level. Once you’ve eaten enough, your stomach will alert your brain and you’ll feel full.

You need to exercise if you have GERD, but don’t overdo it. Losing weight is a huge factor in controlling acid reflux, so go out for a run, play some soccer or go for a swim. That said, don’t push your body too hard or you may find your GERD becomes active.

Take note of the foods and beverages consumed immediately prior to the onset of your symptoms. Trigger foods vary from person to person. Once you find what foods trigger your acid reflux, you will be able to eliminate them from your diet.

Do you suffer from respiratory problems? Do you have a chronic couch or wheeze often? If so, it could be an acid reflux problem. Heartburn could cause these symptoms. Your doctor might suggest a pH test. This procedure is done on an outpatient basis over the course of 24 hours and can determine if reflux is a problem.

You want to avoid foods that contain a high amount of acid in order to reduce acid reflux attacks. Examples of foods that are known to have a high acidic content are grapefruit, tomatoes, and pineapple. If you do have a history of issues after eating these foods, it may be best to avoid eating them late at night, or entirely.

Don’t allow stress to spiral out of control in any area of your life. Stress can cause your stomach to produce more acid than usual. Find out what is causing your anxiety and eliminate it from your life immediately.

Eat your food slowly. Instead of stuffing yourself, eat until you are not quite full. Sit and take the time to chew and taste the meal. Eating fast or eating when overly stuffed can make your acid reflux symptoms worse. If you need assistance with this, simply put down your utensil following each bite that you take.

Consume smaller meals to help control your acid reflux problems. When you over stuff yourself during a meal, it can often lead to uncomfortable digestive upset, including acid reflux. Instead, consider eating several small meals a day, and always stop eating as soon as you begin to feel satisfied.

Avoid Certain Foods. Some foods are more likely to trigger acid reflux than others. These include caffeine, spicy food, alcohol, tomatoes, chocolate, and any foods that are acidic in nature. If you frequently suffer from acid reflux, consider eliminating these foods from your diet, or at least try not to eat them in the hours before you go to bed.

Engage in moderate exercise every day. The important part is that it should be moderate exercise. Extreme exercise can actually interfere with digestion, worsening acid reflux symptoms. However, moderate exercise reduces reflux. Exercises like this keep you upright, allowing gravity to aid in digestion. Moderate exercise also helps you lose weight and reduces heartburn.

Avoid wearing clothing that is too tight around your waist and belts. These items dig into your abdomen and could cause acid production, leading to acid reflux disease. Try to wear clothing that is comfortable around your waist and if you need to wear a belt, do not put it in the last hole.

Now that you understand the basics, you are ready to start implementing them in your life. Change how you eat, sleep, dress and behave to ensure that your symptoms are kept to a minimum. Once you pair this with your doctor’s advice, you’ll find that your acid reflux no longer controls your life.

Science Center is a good place to go to. They have a good exhibit going on right now. You may also want to go walk around Station Square, South Side, and the Strip District. You'll find a lot of interesting things to do around these areas. There is also to Pittsburgh Zoo and Oakland. University of Pitt is in Oakland, so there are a lot of things to do there that are geared for the colleged aged people and people in their 20s and 30s. There are also many meusums and stuff down there too. Have fun.

Need information on the Pittsburgh, PA area?

Looking for all information on Pittsburgh, i.e. Economy, future growth, housing market, unemployment rating, culture, ethnic background,
weather – modern metro center or NOT????, nice people?, types of businesses, farm areas??, education levels, age of residents, etc???Thanks in advance…

I go to college in Pittsburgh. I don't know about everything you asked, but I thought some information would be better than none.

People here are pretty nice from what I've noticed. Its a big college town. A lot of businesses cater to the college student, which is a good thing, price-wise.

Most of the other information you are looking for (ie, age of residents, farm land, culture, unemployment rating, etc.) will vary depending on what neighborhood you would choose to look at. I would suggest that you contact a Pittsburgh real estate agent. If you email them, I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions you may have, since they know the area the best.

Hope that helps you out some!

What are places in Pittsburgh locals usually go to? Locals do?

I'm writing a book and need some information about Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. What are places in Pittsburgh that the locals go to? A park? A movie theater? A restaurant that may not be a big chain but locally owned?

Also I'm looking for local events too. Are there festivals? Any event would be great. Date usually celebrated would be great.

Please provide as much information as possible, details, sensations (smells, colors) or anything unique that you, as a local, appreciate about the event or place.

If you have a lot more to contribute but find that you are taking too much space (which I hope you are =) Details details details), please email me =)

Tips for having healthy skin /?

A few simple tips to help your skin be as healthy and beautiful as possible:

Avoid stress as much as you are can.
Stay out of the sun (or protect your skin with UV blockers).
Don't smoke. This does nasty things to your skin.
Drink lots of water.
Get plenty of sleep. Healthy, younger looking skin is what everyone dreams of. Healthy, younger looking skin is not hard to achieve. Looking after your appearance and maintaining a regular routine and healthy diet can help to give you perfect looking skin, free from spots and blemishes.

Research now debunks the need for 8 glasses of water per day. Instead, let your thirst be your guide for how much water to consume. Remember, if you are drinking enough water, your urine will have a light yellow color.
Foods are a good source of adding water or fluids to your body and they are often overlooked. Fruits and vegetables are particularly good. Remember, that you get 2 to 4 cups of water per day from food.
Some bottled water is actually tap water. Tap water is usually safe to drink but if you have any question about the water quality in your community, consider getting your water tested for lead and arsenic
Bacteria can grow in water so toss those half consumed water bottles away.
In general all water is the same. However, carbonated water can help digestion and ease constipation. Fluorinated water can prevent tooth decay and lead to healthy teeth.
Avoid the sun during high-intensity hours. The sun's rays are most damaging from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. Reduce the time you spend outdoors during these hours.
Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats. Also, keep in mind that certain clothing styles and fabrics offer better protection from the sun than do others. For example, long-sleeved shirts offer better protection than short-sleeved shirts do. And tightly woven fabrics such as denim are better than are loosely woven fabrics such as knits. Several companies now make sun protective clothing (SPF clothing), which is specifically designed to block out ultraviolet rays while keeping you cool and comfortable.
Use sunscreen. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) greater than 15. Apply liberally 20 minutes before going outdoors and reapply every two hours, after heavy sweating or after being in water.
2. Don't smoke
Smoking accelerates aging of your skin and increases wrinkles. Skin changes from smoking can appear in young adults after 10 years of smoking.

Smoking causes narrowing of the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin. This decreases blood flow, depleting the skin of oxygen and nutrients, such as vitamin A, that are important to skin health. All of these factors increase damage to the elastic fibers (elastin) and collagen, which give your skin strength and elasticity.

In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — may contribute to wrinkles. It's also possible that repeated exposure to the heat from burning cigarettes may damage
Use warm water and limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time to about 15 minutes or less, and use warm, rather than hot, water.
Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps — those most capable of stripping oil from your skin — can leave your skin dry. Instead, choose mild soaps or detergent substitutes with added oils and fats. Good choices include Dove, Vanicream, Cetaphil and Purpose.
Avoid irritating additives. If your skin is sensitive, avoid products containing perfumes or dyes. These can irritate your skin and may trigger an allergic response.
Remove eye makeup carefully. Use a soft sponge, cotton cloth or cotton balls when removing eye makeup to avoid damaging the delicate tissue around your eyes. If you wear heavy, waterproof makeup, you may need to use an oil-based product, such as Eucerin, Aquaphor or petroleum jelly, to remove makeup.
Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on the skin. Immediately moisturize your skin with an oil or cream.
4. Moisturize regularly
Moisturizers help maintain your skin's natural moisture levels. They work by providing a seal over your skin — to keep water from escaping — or by slowly releasing water into your skin.

The moisturizer that's best for you and the frequency with which you need to moisturize depend on many factors, including your skin type, your age and whether you have specific conditions such as acne. A good way to test if you need a moisturizer is to wait 20 minutes after bathing. If your skin feels tight, you should apply a moisturizer.

Select a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 to help protect your skin from damaging ultraviolet rays. If you have sensitive skin, look for products free of heavy dyes, perfumes or other additives. If your skin is very dry, you may want to apply an oil, such as baby oil, while your skin is still moist. Oil has more staying power than moisturizers do and prevents the evaporation of water from the surface of your skin. If your skin is oily, you may want to skip moisturizing.

5. Shave carefully
Shaving is a common and inexpensive way to remove unwanted hair. But shaving can cause skin irritations, especially if your skin is thin, dry or very sensitive. For a smooth shave:

Press a warm wash cloth on your skin before shaving to soften the hair. Or shave after a warm bath or shower.
Don't shave dry skin, which can cause razor burn. Apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving to protect and lubricate your skin.
Use a clean, sharp razor. If using an electric razor, don't use the closest setting, which can aggravate the skin.
Shave in the direction of hair growth, not against it.
Rinse your skin afterward with warm water.
If irritation does occur, apply a lotion that doesn't contain ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. Though alcohol and alcohol-based products may feel cooling, they don't really soothe irritated skin because the alcohol evaporates rapidly from the skin.

Am I at a healthy weight? Tips?

I am 17, 5'7", and about 150 pounds.
My measurements are 37" bust, 30" waist, 37" hips.
Is this healthy? I feel like crap every day.
I'm vegan, and everyone expects me to be tiny, but there are still so many replacement junk foods!
If you have any tips, too, that would help. I'm always hungry!
I'm vegan for a reason besides diet, by the way. I'm not changing it even if it's causing me to be 200 pounds overweight.

You are in a healthy range for your age/height. It's not only what's average, but what's healthy and comfortable for YOU. You need to understand that not everyone is meant to be a size 2-4. But if you are still concerned there are websites that can give you a guide as to where you should be. Here is a website that measures your BMI ( body mass index) this is what you should be according to your height/weight. And you are in the "normal" range!

Good luck! :)

How to stay healthy ?

I am 15 and I would really like to lose some weight .. But many people tell me that going on a diet at my age is bad , i would like to get some tips to lose weight without really being on a diet ?

Good for you for trying to stay healthy. Right now, developing a healthy lifestyle is far more important than losing weight and many diets are not sustainable and only result in temporary weight loss. Instead, here are some tips to stay healthy:
-exercise! Find an exercise that you enjoy, such as running, dancing, a sport such as soccer, swimming, hiking or anything else that you find enjoyable, and then try to make exercise a regular part of your routine.
-eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Not only do they contain important vitamins and minerals, but they're also low in calories and high in fiber and a very important part of a healthy diet
-be aware of nutrition labels. Knowing what is in the food you eat and looking at things such as portion size, calorie content and the nutrients contained in various foods will help you to make better, healthier decisions. This doesn't mean you have to count calories – in fact, you probably shouldn't – but being aware of nutritional information will help you to be healthier.
-stick to portion sizes. Most people eat far more than the recommended portion size – one portion of meat is 3 oz, or about the size of a deck of cards; one portion of dairy is one cup, one portion of bread is an ounce and a portion size of fruit or vegetable is one cup
-Aim to eat a low-fat diet. Again, you don't have to count fat grams or anything, but you should aim to eat less than 30% of your calories from fat. Since one gram of fat has more calories than a gram of carbohydrate or protein, this will help you to stay slimmer and will reduce your risk of heart problems in the future.
-learn more about nutrition. Being aware of what you need to live a healthy life will help you to make better decisions and continue this healthy lifestyle.

I hope that this advice helped, and good luck.

How much does tai chi improve posture?

Is it like yoga? How much does it improve posture and flexibility? Is it healthy for the joints? Will I be taught combat applications? I saw an ad that advertises an individual who teaches tai chi to people of all ages. It says that it is all about health benefits, but would I be taught combat?

Posted by أبو جهاد بلخدمه O.K.
Health Addict

When I began Tai-chi training over 40 years ago, I had little joint mobility. I had scoliosis with a 45 degree bend and a twist. The doctors told me that my choice was surgery or wearing a back brace.

Instead I decided to study Tai-chi and a chi-gung system I now call "zookinesis". Now I have complete mobility, was involved for many years in the full contact fighting aspects of Tai-chi-Chuan, and perform the complex animal forms with ease. (You can see me performing these in the Youtube channel "zookinesis49" – keep in mind the degree of my scoliosis).

Without Tai-chi training, I would be a bent over 63 year old trudging my way through life. Now my posture is fine, and whenever I have any free time, I am bicycling, roller blading, working out or engaged in other physical activities, my favorite of which is push hands.

If you go to a "Tai-chi-Chuan" school, you will be taught the combat aspects. Again, there are some clips on that youtube channel I mentioned about that. Tai-chi-Chuan teaches punching, kicking, grappling, groundfighting, joint locks and pressure points. It emphasizes learning proper body mechanics and the use of internal energy to develop power.

My best wishes for your practice of a great martial art which is great for health, stress reduction as well as for combat.

To Normal Landing:
Your information is quite innacurate. There are still Tai-chi-Chuan teachers teaching it as full combat. You do a disservice to those of us trying to keep up the fighting aspects of Tai-chi-Chuan.

How Do Seniors Stay Young

Senior jazz/modern dance song?

This is my second solo for this year. My first is a lyrical to Idina's Menzel's I Stand and I want my second to either be a jazz or a modern solo. Because my first solo is impersonal, just one of my favorite songs, I want my second solo to have to do with my senior year. This could mean growing up, leaving, or a mother or father/daughter song. I might try and keep this one a secret from my parents if it works out. Do you have any ideas? When I say jazz, I don't mean jazzy songs, it's not how my studio performs jazz. We usually just do faster songs. Modern, I want it to be not completely contemporary but not creepy.

If you have no luck, feel free to suggest other jazz/modern songs. I don't want really overused jazz/modern songs, something different. This does not mean trendy songs are out though, it means no Black and Gold, etc.

My back ups are The Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga (jazz) and Kangaroo Cry by Blue October (modern).

Please help, thank you (:

What do seniors do with their free time?

It seems after retiring they have all the time in their hands, I wonder what they do aside from baby sitting, travel.

Posted by stoob48
Health Addict

I am a little younger than most seniors & my husband & I actually have a business but it is more like we are semi-retired. We actually depend on that money to live. He is going to retire within the year though and we will still work some for the need of money.

So we go out to customers and work in their office or home. I often stay some place nearby while he is visiting the client. So he works and I sit at a book store or a mall and enjoy myself reading the stores books or bringing my own.

I have a son who is grown so tomorrow I am going to visit him while his neighborhood is having a block party. I will go to a New Thought center in the morning which is always fun and interesting. They have a mastermind group afterwards so I join in with that.

Monday night there is a mastermind group on the phone so I will probably visit a client or go some place to spend time while my husband is working. It depends on the area and sometimes I stay at a library. It's nice for me to get out and they all have computers I can use but I never run ouf of books to look through.

We go to a chiropractor so that is usually part of our day. We also hand out flyers for our business so often my husband brings a bike in our van and rides around putting flyers on mailboxes while I am preparing them in the van.

We like to go out to eat. We often just get salad from a really good store salad bar. People smile at us cause we often just sit outside at the table and chairs that are for sale and we eat our lunch.

We don't eat huge meals anymore so we can buy one meal and split it often.

On Wednesday I have someone call me each week and we talk about my week and he helps me look at things in a better way. Then Wednesday eve. I make dinner and have a couple people over and we talk about what we want in life & support each other. This is always helpful. It's like a prayer group. We focus on what we want rather than what we don't want.

Thursday we love to watch Big Bang Theory. Oh, every night when we are home we watch Jeopardy on tv while I ride my stationary bike.

We like to watch Shark Tank on Friday night but it may be off the air. I also like to watch America's most talented, Millionaire Bosses, etc. We get dvds from the library and watch as many good movies as we can.

We love to go to the movies but haven't had the disposable income lately. If we did we would travel. We would love to get some kind of job where we could drive and make enough money to pay or bills and have more but we haven't found that so we look for and pray about that and for me to have some kind of phone job that I can do at home or even while traveling. So this is a big part of what I am praying for and when we get it we want to travel and have the expenses paid for by the job.

How should i plan a senior trip to disney world?

I want to take some of my friends and I do not know if I should fly or drive. Also I do not know where to stay but I want to stay on Disney and we are trying not to spend a lot of money. So if you have anything please let me know.

Posted by kyle c
Health Addict

There are pros and cons to driving vs. Flying and stay on Disney vs. Staying off property.

If you fly, you will need to stay on property. I'm guessing you are too young to rent a car. By staying off property you can use the Disney transportation system from the airport and can use it to travel to all the Disney parks. You will be limited to do just Disney stuff with this option. Staying on property is more expensive. The Disney hotels cost more, and all food you buy will be from a Disney owned restaurant which will cost more than eating off property.

If you drive, then you will have your car with you and will have the option of staying off property. This will definitely be cheaper. You can save money on food by eating at restaurants off Disney property or can shop at a local grocery store to cut costs even further. The downside is the time it takes you to drive to and from Orlando. You didn't say where you were from, so I can't give you a full answer.

10 Tips for Healthy Aging

Questions and Answers

Lose 10 kilograms in 10 weeks?

Hey :)

I am looking to get fit and lose 10 kilograms by my birthday so I can go hiking with friends (and actually look decent). At the moment I probably go the the gym every second day and run for half an hour on a tread mill, I also don't eat to many bad foods. But I just cant seem to shift my weight!
Its starting to become quite upsetting because a lot of my friends eat more and do less exercise but are still fitter!
Any way does anyone have good tips on how to lose about a kg of fat a week?

Background info

weight: 65kg
daily exercise: half an hour every second day
naughty foods: lots of fruit and at the moment too many carbs, not much sugary food though.

If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.

Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 (women) – 1500 (men) calories.
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved if you don't have the access.
Don't eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices

Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am – 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am – pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm – muligrain sandwich w 50g tuna & salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm – low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm – 120g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad & mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack – 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)

Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.

Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. If you have access to a gym include boxing and spin classes as well. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.

To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 (women) – 1800 (men) and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. Go back to 1200 (women) – 1500 (men) cal and 6 sessions again.

Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

Tips for stay at home mommy please!?

I am freshly a stay at home mom. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for some good quality things I can do with my 2yr old girl. I hate tv! She gets bored quickly like any kid her age! Coloring is out of the question because it never ends up ON paper (only my walls and everything else) lol.

As a Kindergarten teacher with 10 + years prior experience in early childhood, I suggest creating a daily schedule filled with as many activities as possible! This can help keep you sane and prepare your daughter for preschool! Plus, young children are sponges with short attentions spans, introduce them to as much as possible while they are ready and willing to learn! I also want to commend you for staying home with your daughter and I believe you are very lucky! (Have to admit Im a bit jealous–we can't afford for me to stay home so enjoy this awesome time–as there are many of us who would love to stay home!!)

Try to wake up at the same time everyday and get ready as though you are going somewhere! (Everybody dressed and no jammies!)
Eat a healthy breakfast! You will need a lot of energy and so will she!
**I would start the day off with some type of exercise/movement. Toddlers love to move and are still developing a lot of fine and gross motor skills. Do you have scarves or handkerchiefs? Put on some music and play follow the leader. Walk around and swing the scarves from side to side, teach her how to skip, use descriptive language and have her walk like a dinosaur, or crawl around like a spider :) Or if you can afford it and are near one of their locations this looks awesome: Http://www.mommyandbabyfitness.com/progr…
Just remember to get creative, don't care about how silly you look, and HAVE FUN!
After your early morning workout, you could:
*Sing songs–It will help her develop language,a sense of rhythm, introduce her to different cultures and who doesn't love music? Check this out to get you started : Http://www.rhapsody.com/songs-kids-love-…
You could also use this as an academic time, teach her how to count, talk about colors, animals, discuss the weather, etc…
After this is done, how about:
*Free play–allow her to choose from her toys or if there is a park nearby (or your backyard is ready) give her some outside time to just play! You can both enjoy the fresh air!
*Story time–read her favorite stories :) Children need to be read to at least 30 minutes a day to become excellent readers themselves!
*Art project related to a story or just for fun! Yes she will make a mess but believe me it is worth it! Make sure you both wear an old t-shirt, break out the tarp or garbage bags & newspaper. She will remember these projects and you will have cute gifts to give to family members or daddy when he comes home! Try these sites for ideas:
After all of this fun, it is probably time for lunch! Keep it healthy, we still have the afternoon!
After lunch it is a good idea to go back outside to run off a little energy:)
After this second trip outside its time for a nap! Play a classical CD, lay out a nap mat in the living room, turn off lights and close the shades. Rub her back in the same direction and even if she doesnt fall asleep, have her lay down for at least 20 minutes. This quiet time will alow her to reflect on everything you have done so far and allow her to regain energy for the rest of the afternoon.
After nap time, read some more stories!
After the afternoon story time, allow her to have free time again :) Yep hit the park or the backyard again! Fresh air is awesome!
*Drama time: Make believe something! Use paper bags and turn them into costumes, take toilet paper/ paper towel rolls and use them for telescopes, unsharpened pencils with a creative paper topping can be magic wands! (Once she is 3 years old if this is in your area and you can afford look into this: Http://www.dramakids.com/programs_overvi…
After all of this fun it is probably time for a snack:
*Fun healthy food ideas for toddlers: Http://www.snacksfortoddlers.com/
*End the day with some more free play before Daddy gets home. With the academic demands that kindergarteners are faced with, allow her to have as much free play time as possible before she enters school! We see a lot of students who are missing this important skill of just being imaginative and being able to entertain themselves :)

I hope I've helped and I hope you have tons of fun with your daughter!

Healthy eating tips? 10 points?

Am 14 years old and my diet is very bad. I eat lots of salty, sweet and very bad foods. I used to be a 80% pescetarian when I was four years old but my brother told me to start eating chicken because he was jealous that my mom praised me for being a better eater than my brother. So I wanted to act like a rebellion and I started eating meat and also started liking it. I don't eat fish at all now. I remember when I was like 10 or 11 years old the doctor checked my cholestrol and he found it was 198-very high. I started getting heartburns when I was only 11. It happened for 1 year then it disappeared. Nothing motivates me to eat healthy. I remember the doctor told me three years ago to eat nothing but fruits, veggies and fish but I couldn't control myself. I am obese and my parents have diabetes. I really want to control myself. Do you guys have any tips on how I can beat my cravings and also what diet would be right for me? Should I become a vegetarian? But there could be a problem becoming one because dairy although I love it, it makes me feel weird especially my stomach and also I was considering becoming a vegan because but I don't know if I am going to get proper nutrition like calcium can be found in dairy and dairy annoys me. It just makes me feel hyper at first but then my stomach starts feeling really weird. I am a bit allergic to cheese and also eggs. But I can't hold myself I just ate 4 eggs! Please give me tips my life depends upon it because my dad had diabetes and hypertension. My mom's diabetes is on the border line but it is affecting her severely and also she is obese too.

All you really need is a balanced diet of real foods. You don't need any sort of drastic diet. You do want to cut out packaged foods and fast foods. Just by doing that you will be cutting fat, sodium, and unhealthy chemicals out of your diet. And cut out pop. Did you know that one can of pop a day is equal to 10 lbs. A year – even diet pop.

I know its really hard at your age when someone else pretty much controls your diet. And it sounds like there is a lot of conflict in that area. My daughter would go to live at her dad's, gain weight, and then come home and lose it all again. No diet. We just eat real foods – and we walk the dog. Walking a half hour a day is great exercise – and it helps relieve stress.

It is too hard to go into all the healthy foods you could be eating, and the importance of getting some exercise everyday, and keeping your stress levels in check. You can go to SaneSuperWomanClub.com and find the food listings that will tell you all the great things about 100 different foods. And if you're interested in learning to make your own food, there are hundreds of really simple recipes. You'll also find healthy eating and exercise tips. Its meant more for moms, but you sound like you're ready to start taking responsibility for your own health and well being.

Questions and Answers

Can HGH or Human Growth Homone improve the quality of life after 40?

If so where can I get it?

Posted by Calling inthe desert
Health Addict

Here some good informtions about it:

Human growth hormone (HGH): Does it slow aging process?
If you're willing to pay thousands, some doctors promise to reverse the signs of aging with human growth hormone (HGH). Before you sign up, get the facts.
Your body naturally makes growth hormone to help fuel growth during your childhood and to help maintain your tissues and organs throughout your life. Beginning in your 40s, your pituitary gland — the pea-sized structure at the base of your brain where growth hormone is made — slowly reduces the amount of the hormone it produces.

Some people believe the dwindling level of growth hormone is responsible for the frailty that typically comes with getting older. And that's prompted some who are concerned about growing old and losing independence to turn to injections of synthetic human growth hormone (HGH) to stave off the realities of old age. But there's little evidence to suggest human growth hormone is the Fountain of Youth.

Who needs to take human growth hormone?
Synthetic human growth hormone is available only by prescription and is administered through an intramuscular injection. It's currently approved to treat adults with true growth hormone deficiency — not the expected decline in growth hormone due to aging. Growth hormone deficiency can be caused by pituitary tumors and radiation or surgery to the pituitary gland, among other causes.

Human growth hormone is also approved for:

Children with short stature
Children with kidney failure
Children with Prader-Willi syndrome
Children with Turner's syndrome
Muscle wasting associated with AIDS and HIV
Studies of adults with growth hormone deficiencies show that injections of human growth hormone can:

Increase bone density
Increase muscle mass
Decrease body fat
Bolster the heart's ability to contract
Improve mood and motivation
Increase exercise capacity
Because of those results, some people believe that synthetic human growth hormone can help healthy older adults who have naturally low levels of growth hormone regain some of their youth and vitality.

What can human growth hormone do for healthy older adults who don't need it?
Studies of healthy older adults taking human growth hormone are limited. Many involve a small number of people followed for a short period of time. The studies that have been conducted have found that human growth hormone injections can increase muscle mass and reduce the amount of body fat in healthy older adults.

That increase in muscle doesn't translate into increased strength. Though the study participants gained muscle, they weren't any stronger. One study compared older men who took human growth hormone with older men who went through strength training programs. The bottom line: Strength training can increase both your muscle mass and your strength, making it cheaper and more effective than taking human growth hormone.

It isn't clear whether human growth hormone can provide other benefits, such as increased bone density and improved mood, to healthy adults. Most of the research into human growth hormone has focused on people with true growth hormone deficiencies.

Are there any risks to taking human growth hormone if you don't need it?
Taking human growth hormone can cause a number of side effects, including:

Swelling in your arms and legs
Arthritis-like symptoms
Carpal tunnel symptoms
Muscle pain
Abnormal growth of bones and internal organs
Hardening of the arteries
High blood pressure
Some evidence shows that side effects of human growth hormone treatments may be more likely in older adults than in younger adults. Also, because the studies of healthy adults taking human growth hormone have been short term, it isn't clear whether these side effects could eventually dissipate or become worse. For instance, though human growth hormone produced arthritis-like symptoms, it isn't clear if this would progress into arthritis. More study is needed.

Does human growth hormone come in pill form?
Some Web sites claim to sell a pill form of human growth hormone that produces results similar to the injected form of the drug. Sometimes these are called human growth hormone releasers. There's no proof that these claims are true. In fact, if you were to swallow human growth hormone, it would likely be digested by your stomach acids and not absorbed into your body.

Web sites also sell homeopathic remedies claiming to contain human growth hormone. There's no proof that these work, either.

Talk it over with your doctor
Your doctor can explain more about how human growth hormone works in your body and whether it's something your body needs more of. If you have specific concerns about aging, such as gaining weight, your doctor can suggest ways to improve your health safely. Taking simple steps, such as eating a diet full of fruits and vegetables and exercising daily, can help keep your body in shape and help you feel better about yourself as you get older.

Does milk and dairy products make humans grow faster and speed up the aging process?

Milk is for baby cows and the milk helps them grow quickly. Surely it is not meant for humans?

Posted by johndehaura
Health Addict

Actually, countries that consume little dairy have fewer cases of broken hips and other bone-strength related problems.

Dairy is acidic, so your body releases calcium from the bone marrow to neutralise it, weakening your bones.

You're right- milk is designed for baby cows, not your body. The human body undergoes quite a bit of strain to digest it properly, wearing out your digestive system over the years, and the calcium in it is not in a form that your system can get very easily, so much is not collected- a very expensive way to get calcium when you consider how many calories are in dairy.

If you want strong bones, get your calcium the same way that cows do- eat plenty of greens (lettuces, green peppers, any green veg) and some nuts and seeds too.

Leave the bovine breast milk to the cute baby calves.

Scientists have successfully reversed the aging process in mice – when will they try it on humans?

I hope NEVER! I am having more fun now at almost 60 than when I as in my 20's. I am established in a career that I enjoy, I'm married to a wonderful man, and I know longer give a rip what people think about me. I don't care if people talk about me behind my back or not–at least I gave them a topic for conversation! I don't care if people like me or not–if they don't, I'll go find people who do.

I have lovely silver gray hair, some interesting wrinkles, laugh lines around my eyes, and I have learned to laugh off things that would have reduced me to tears 20 years ago. I don't want to lose those things. I don't want to look 20, 30 or even 40 again–I want to look my age! So what if I'm sinking, wrinkling, and sagging (although, I wouldn't mind having the knees I had at 16, before I wrecked them at age 17.).

Rather than wish you were younger, wouldn't it be better to celebrate and enjoy the age you are right now?

At what age should I introduce stage 3 foods?

What age is a good age to start to give my son stage three foods he eats stage two now and has for months now. He gets bites of regular food here and there and he has 6 teeth already and does try to chew.

Posted by ROSIE
Health Addict

When your son is good at gumming foods (say, small pieces of cheese, or soft pieces of fruit), it's okay to introduce stage 3 foods. Sounds like he's ready.
However, if you look at the labels, there is an awful lot of stuff in a lot of stage 3 foods that is really unnecessary. I haven't used a "stage 3 food" yet, but I have a manual food mill (12 dollars at babies r us) and I just throw whatever we're eating into it (assuming it's not a food she can't have yet), and it mashes it up for her with a few twists of the handle. If you're cooking at home, it's very easy to do this. Plus, it gets the baby used to eating what your family eats, as far as tastes and whatnot. You might be surprised at what your baby will eat. A lot of babies prefer "real" food to the mushed up, corn starch loaded baby foods. I admit I do buy some baby food every once in a while for convenience's sake, though I try to get it without all the fillers, but, then, yeah, it gets expensive.

Stage school age?????????????

I looked on the Wikipedia page for various stage schools and it said the age was 16+. Does that mean that you have to start at age 16 or does the + sign mean that you can be any age upwards?

I'm assuming you're referring to the vocational ones (Urdang, Laine, Italia Conti, etc.) 16+ means that they take students for full time training from 16. That means you can start your professional training at the time you'd be taking A-levels, in England, or 11th grade in the US (I don't know where you live) Alternatively you can start at 18, instead of attending a mainstream university. It's full time, professional training for people who are going to go into a career in the performing arts.

10 Keys to Healthy Aging

Balance and Flexibility for Healthy Aging

Questions and Answers

Whats the ideal weight for age 31 and height 5'10?

Posted by uday
Health Addict

Age doesn't matter. Check BMI tables.

For you, at 5'10'', you should weight anywhere between 130 – 170 lbs (towards the lower end is healthier – you'll live longer too).

If you need to lose weight, check books by Gary Taubes on Amazon. Basically, cut out all sugars and starches – that's it. Just eat good proteins (fish, eggs, beans) and good fats (olive oil, fish, nuts, avocado) and good carbs (green veggies like spinach and broccoli, and some beans). Drink only lots of water and green tea. Exercise is good for health, but optional for losing weight. Diet is key.

Best of luck to you!

Is age a big factor in a relationship?

I'm writing a research argumentative essay and I need ideas on topics to write about because it has to be 8-10 pages long. My thesis is "In order to have a healthy relationship the age of those involved is not as important as the keys to a successful relationship". Please help the best way possible, I need good advice on this. I would greatly appreciate it.

It's really about how each person thinks about it. Some people don't care and some do. It depends how they think about it. Different people have different opinion. But in my opinion I think it does since If you have a huge age difference you won't be understanding the same thing, your not even living the same age as each other how do you communicate. Communication is always important in a healthy relationship, but if you can't communicate with each other how does the relationship work? Right? So I think age is a big factor in relationship. For me maximum age difference is 3. If to much a part you just won't be thinking the same things. Like one is 13 and the other is 16, 13 is just starting to live the teenage life and 16 is already almost passed that. How are you suppose to communicate.

Normal Aging

Questions and Answers

Am I normal for my age?????

So I am 13 going on 14 and I masturbate? And is that weird? This is so awkward asking but I dont want to ask my dad. But I do it at least three times a week. I've felt very horny before at times what does it mean? And I make out with my boyfriend a lot so am I normal for my age?

Posted by
Health Addict

Christina you are definatley normal. I'm a 15 year old girl, and I started masturbating younger than 13. I thought I wasn't normal because girls usually don't talk about this stuff. Now in 10th grade, some of my friends have talked openly about touching themselves (Maybe 4) that are girls and I know it is normal. My boyfriend and I make out a lot as well, and its normal to get horny after all, we're teenagers and we have raging hormones. Remember if your boyfirend and you decide to eventually "Satisfy eachother" remember to use protection and be safe.

Is this normal for my age?

Hey ,

i'm 14 years old, and i've had my period for 3 years. I'm 5 feet tall and my weight is 94.0 lbs. My bra size is only 34AA. Would that be normal for me? If not, what should my bra size be?

Cause when my sister was my age, she had way bigger ones than me

thanks (:

Sounds perfectly normal to me. 14 is far from a "finished" age, with regard to your breast growth, and I'm sure that is what you're really wanting to know, right?

You'll grow more, I'm virtually sure of it.

Questions and Answers

Is Wicca "New Age"?

Hello, all:

On one of the communities I belong to over on LiveJournal, there's some discussion about the New Age and how it meshes with Neo-Pagan practice.

So: In your opinion, is Wicca part of the New Age cluster of beliefs? Is any other form of Neo-Paganism part of that cluster? If so, why? If not, why?

As always, thank you to everyone who takes the time to respond.
To Trish JPA… Actually, Wicca has only been around since the early part of the 20th century. The "Wicca is ancient" claim has been pretty thoroughly debunked by historians. I highly recommend "The Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton if you ever want to investigate the roots of the faith.

"New Age" is such a vague term that any sort of technical answer of this question is almost impossible. (One definition at dictionary.com is "of or pertaining to a movement espousing a broad range of philosophies and practices traditionally viewed as occult, metaphysical, or paranormal," which is useless as a definition.)

Wica does not at all fit with what I think of when I think of New Age. I have to confess, however, that I have a rather negative opinion of New Age things overall: power crystals, ley lines, Atlantis, Indigo Children, feel-good angelology, etc.

Dictionary/Thesaurus Recommendations?

I've asked this before but apparently I wasn't clear enough. I am writing a book with my co-author, and we need to buy a really good (but hopefully decently inexpensive) dictionary and thesaurus. If you all have any recommendations as to what kind of dictionary/thesaurus we should buy, who published it or what year or anything, that would be extremely helpful. We're writing it as a sort of joke, although it'll be a relatively serious book with humor included. If that makes any sense to you or helps in the slightest. We were talking over the phone, and we thought "Hey, we should write a book together!" We are both inexperienced and the plot is not completely formed, we have a general idea about almost everything but nothing is set in stone. We don't even have a target age group yet, haha. I'm thinking teens or YA, but with our plot I think it'd be hard to attract the YA's. It'll be from 1st POV, and the mouse is the main character. He is a one armed, talented performer in a small circus. We don't have a lot planned out, as I've mentioned earlier, I just want some recommendations as to what kinds of dictionaries and thesauruses we should buy in order to help with our vocabulary (as our vocab has nearly desintigrated over the summer). Any grammar books or really anything else you could reccomend on how to write well, really. We just need some help and need to read and write more before we start. So any help will be appreciated! Please no rude comments, I'm just asking for some help because we truly need it. Thank you in advance! :) xx

P.S. I'm asking this again because the only responses I got were recommending online dictionaries. Yes, I am aware that they exist, but to be absolutely clear I do not want to use one. I want to use one that has paper pages and real binding, if I wanted to use an online dictionary I would've done it and not bothered to ask this question at all. No online books or dictionaries/thesauruses. I don't want to use them. End of story.

I use "Roget's Thesaurus" – the first ever thesaurus and still, to my mind, the best.
I have a number of dictionaries but the two I use most are the "Chamber's Concise" and the "Concise Oxford". You will find any of the big name dictionaries (Webster – Collins-Cambridge) will probably do.

You can often get second-hand dictionaries fairly cheaply (try thrift/charity shops and secondhand bookshops). Obviously these will not be the most up-to-date versions. However the best way to expand your vocabulary is by reading rather than using a dictionary. In practice, your writing will flow better if you are using the language and words that you know.

It is a little more difficult to recommend grammar books because it really does depend on what you actually need. I have "Usage and Abusage: A Guide to Good English." by Eric Partridge and Fowler's "Modern English Usage". I think you might find Partridge hard work but the Fowler is very much a classic.

What is the age of accountability?

I am referring to according to when someone knows who Jesus is. Remember this is in R&S not p&s?

Posted by Camille
Health Addict

The concept of an age of accountability is that there is a certain age at which people become accountable to respond to the gospel of Jesus for salvation. Before this time, this belief teaches that children who die go to heaven because they were not old enough to understand what it means to choose faith in Christ. Some writers also call this time period the age of innocence.

Thirteen is the most common number given for the age of accountability, based on the Jewish custom that a child becomes an adult at the age of 13. Others use 20 years of age, based on the age given regarding those who would die in the desert due to their unbelief during the time of Moses (Numbers 14:29-30). However, the Bible gives no direct support for a particular age of accountability. It likely varies from child to child. A child has passed the age of accountability once he or she is capable of making a faith decision for or against Christ.

When discussing this important issue, many point to 2 Samuel 12:21-23 in which King David fasts and prays for his infant son who is ill. When the child dies, David stops fasting and mourning. His servants are confused, and they say, “’What is this thing that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive; but when the child died, you arose and ate food.’ He said, ‘While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, “Who knows whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?” But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.’” In these words, several observations can be made.

First, David was confident he would once again see his infant son who had died. The only possible place David would have in mind is in the presence of God in heaven.

Second, David had a positive future in mind. Some have argued that this is merely a reference to death in general, but the fact that David is no longer in mourning means he has a much better ending in mind.

Third, David found comfort when his child passed away. Why? His view of God included a deep understanding of God’s love for children. Those unable to respond to the call of the Shepherd (Psalm 23) can rest assured that the Great Shepherd would extend His care to them. To further the analogy, a shepherd would offer the most protection to the youngest and most needy of his flock, knowing that death would be certain without his intervention.

While the Bible does not directly state that young children or others unable to make a decision to follow Christ by faith will be in heaven, there is no reason to believe that God would not choose to mercifully save those who cannot make a faith decision. God’s mercy extends to all sinners at a time when they cannot help themselves (Romans 5:8). We can also take into account 1 John 2:2, which teaches that Jesus is “the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” This verse is clear that the death of Christ is sufficient for all sins. If God has chosen to cover the sins of young children and others unable to come to Him by faith, then the blood of Christ is certainly sufficient to do so.

In the end, the age of accountability is not a certain age but the theological idea that God’s grace extends to those too young to make a decision to follow Christ by faith as the Bible teaches (Ephesians 2:8-9). We can trust that the Lord’s grace covers those unable to respond as He has commanded, yet we must continue to strive to share the gospel message to all who can believe and stand in need of the salvation only Jesus provides.

Worst Acne Products

My pregnancy is causing really bad acne. What can I do?

My skin was pretty decent, I just had a few blackheads and a pimple or two. I wanted to try to get it better so I bought a 3 step system called Beyond Belief Skin Renewal Acne Treatment System at Sally's Beauty.

I've been using it for 2 weeks and it made my skin SO MUCH WORSE!!! It gave me so much acne! Now i have painful pimples all over my forehead and cheeks. I've stopped using it and I'm trying to recover my face from it.

But how can a product thats supposed to heal your acne actually give you even more acne? Is that even possible? Has anyone experienced this before?
This product says that it is for all skin types. I have combination skin, but sometimes it can get a little dry.

I know people that this has happened to. It's much more common than you would think, especially if you aren't careful about the products you buy.

Generally it is because of the skin type the product is designed for – for example, products for oily skin are designed to reduce oil, but if you have dry skin already, then they will make your skin a whole lot worse, because your skin will need more oil, not less.

Sometimes products react with your particular skin type, or with a product you use with them – for example, a cleanser might react with your moisturiser, so be careful about combinations.

Sometimes, however, products are simply low quality. They may include ingredients that power through your acne, making it seem like everything has magically gone away, but the ingredients might be too strong and soon your skin is damaged and the acne returns worse than ever.

There are a few things you can do to make sure this doesn't happen again:
- Look for reviews from other people about products you're considering. Try looking it up on Youtube or asking about it on beauty forums, or even among friends. Don't just go with "customer reviews" on a product's packaging or website.
- Know your skin type and make sure to only buy products that suit it. If you have oily skin, for example, ONLY buy products for oily skin or for all skin types.
- Buy high quality products. Unless you have miracle skin, products that you picked up for $1 in a discount store aren't going to be good for you. Buy your products in a good supermarket or a pharmacy – buying in a pharmacy is extra handy because you can ask staff about the product, and pharmacy staff are trained to help you.

Is it ok to mix acne products?

Ok well I have nowhere near bad acne what so ever. Just the average teenage breakouts I guess you could say. I used proativ but that seems to irritate my skin so I have been using TriClear. Although, I found that when I mix the refining mask from proactiv with the triclear products, my faces looks better. So the process looks something like this
Tri Clear Step 1
Tri Clear Step 2
Proactiv Refining Mask
Tri Clear Step 3

Is it bad to mix products like this? I get some irriation, redness, but it clears up withing 5 minutes. It also like burns a bit but like I said, withing 5-6 minutes, the irritation goes away. Could I be doing more harm than good? Idk, I found that this combination works pretty well. Any suggestions on other products please let me know. How about SkinID?

Do not mix acne products. They can actually make your acne worse or severely BURN your face.

I did some research and talked to my doctor to find the most common causes of acne.

• Hormones: The number one cause of acne is the production of sex hormones, known as androgen, that begins at puberty. This is why majority of acne sufferers are adolescents and teens. Hormones are responsible for then acne flare-ups during menstruation and pregnancy.

• When the sebaceous gland is stimulated by androgens, it produces extra sebum. In its journey up the follicle toward the surface, the sebum mixes with common skin bacteria and dead skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the follicle. While this process is normal, the presence of extra sebum in the follicle increases the chances of clogging — and acne.

• Stress: can also cause the production of hormones, such as cortisol, which can aggravate acne. Stress brings upon different hormone levels. With hormone changes the body prompts the skins oil glands to enlarge, secreting more oil. Which causes white heads, black heads and pimples.

• Oily or heavy make up: Heavy make-up clogs the pores and oily make-ups add more oil, which only adds to the problem if oily skin already exists. Cosmetics, especially certain moisturizers, foundations and pomades contain lanolin, petrolatum, vegetable oils, butyl stearate, lauryl alcohol and oleic acid.

• Certain medications and steroids: Vitamins are good for your body, But an excess of vitamins B1, B6 and B12 can cause acne flare-ups. These vitamins are good for the skin, but avoid overuse.

• Diets: For some people, a diet that is high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can actually aggravate their acne.

• Over abrasive cleansing: Harsh exfoliators can damage skin and spread infections.

• Picking and squeezing: This can actually send the infection deeper into the skin and can cause scarring.

• Environmental irritants: such as high humidity and pollution. High humidity actually causes swelling of skin. Pollution is of course is a big cause for clogging your pores.

• Genes: Family members who are also acne sufferers. Acne is inherited and severe cases known as cystic acne usually come from heredity.

What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

Before trying any treatment, I suggest you read this informational source that listed the most effective acne treatments available:

You can try washing with soap (not using shower creams and stuff like that) and if you use a sponge, try sterilyzing it before going to shower – put it in a bowl of water and microvawe it for two minutes, that should do the trick. The dead skin cells that stay on the sponge can cause really bad infections. After washing, clean your sking with 3% boric acid, let it dry and then you can dab in freshly squeezed lemon juice on breakouts. Occasionaly put some fresh tomatoes on your skin (grose, I know, but it does work). Instead of drying with a towel, use kitchen paper so that you don't spread the acne causing bacteria.
I hope this helps.

Types of Acne Treatments

Acne has been a persistent problem among humans for centuries. While acne is mostly the problem of teens, it can also develop on the skin of older people. Because of this, humans have been looking for effective acne treatments for as long as acne has been a problem.

Today, there are numerous types of acne treatments available in the market. They are so many that choosing the one that fits you can be pretty daunting. Don’t worry, though, because we will help you decide what acne treatments are available to you in the following paragraphs. Read on if you’re ready to learn more.

First of these acne treatments are the over the counter acne solutions. As the name suggests, these are acne treatments that you can easily buy from your local pharmacy or even from the internet. This is a great benefit to those who simply want a quick and effective way of getting rid of their acne. Another benefit is that over the counter acne solutions don’t require you to present a prescription when buying them. So if you’re after convenience, then over the counter acne solutions work.

Examples of these over the counter acne treatments include salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and antibacterial solutions.

However, over the counter acne solutions are typically ineffective against more serious and more persistent forms of acne, such as nodules and pustules. If you need a stronger acne solution, you will have to consult with your dermatologist. Your dermatologist would then prescribe an acne treatment that’s right for your condition.

Some of these prescription acne solutions include retinoids, which help in unclogging your pores, and even oral contraceptive pills, which help regulate the hormone levels in women. Since these medications require a prescription, you won’t be able to easily acquire them, unlike over the counter solutions. On the plus side, however, prescription drugs are more effective against more persistent acne.

Surgery may be required for those with even more serious cases of acne, such as cystic acne. There are a variety of surgical options available, and thus, it is required that you seek your dermatologist’s advice which among these options would suit you.

The surgical option isn’t just for those who want to get rid of their acne, it may also be recommended to those who want to have their acne-related scars removed. While surgery is effective against more serious forms of acne, as well as removing acne scars, they are obviously costlier than over the counter and prescription acne treatments. Surgery will easily cost you several thousands of dollars, while other cheaper options cost around a hundred dollars per session.

So what type of acne treatment is for you? The answer would of course depend on the type of acne that you have. If you’re just having problems with whiteheads and blackheads, over the counter acne treatments would suit you just fine. However for more serious acne problems, seek your dermatologist’s help. He/she would then recommend a more effective acne treatment for you.

What are good home acne treatments?

One of the best (although slowest) ways to treat acne permanently is to treat the inside of your body. If you put the right things into your body to begin with, then you cut down on the acne that you end up with in the long run. There are lots of rumors about what to eat (fruits, veggies, whatever) and what not (chocolate, French Fries, etc.); however, there are two important things you can do to make sure your skin stays clear: 1. Drink lots of water (not soda) and 2. Get out in the sunshine to get your daily dose of vitamin D. The water flushes toxins out of your system and will seriously cut back on your acne problems. When I was in high schooll, I started drinking 2 quarts of water or more a day and spending at least an hour each day outside. This really cut back on any acne problems I had and helped me get a tan :P

If you have really bad acne problems, then you might have to turn to actual medication to treat it. The first step to this would be seeing a dermatologist. One thing that should make you happy, though, is that there are women who have acne on and off in their 30s and 40s, and most women seem to get "worse" acne when it's their time of the month. This is typically called P.M.S. Acne. When this happens, it happens to "Everyone", so don't worry. The other girls are trying to find ways of covering it up and dealing with it just like you are (and that includes your teachers!).

Ah, if only i could copy and paste my answer to those previous 2 questions. *facepalm*

Theres many ways you can get rid of that pimple, it just depends which one you use… Some are quicker but they have side-effects, like scarring >.<

First off- Products can't fix it completely, your diet affects your acne aswell. Infact, if you diet was close to perfect, you'd hardly have acne :)

Okok, Water. The question is, are you drinking enough of it? You need 1.5 litres- 2 litres intake of water into your body EVERY day. Although you might pee alot. It's worth it xD!
Sleep, 8 hours atleast! Can cause break-outs if you don't.

Don't touch your face!! Unless you want the bacteria to spread.

-Makeup… If you wear it, clean your face afterwards- it clogs your pores… And make sure the makeup is oil-free.
-Sun lotion, a good UV ray-d cream will protect your skin.
-Moisturiser, you get all sorts, specifically for your skin type too. I use Olay- it's just amazing… Theres also moisturisers that protect your skin from free readicals, pollution and many more things that affect your skin and can ruin your complexion in your everyday life.
-Toner! Tone your face, use a toner for oily skin, dry skin or combination. It can control some areas over time on your face and cleanse your face thoroughly… But that's why you have a -
-Facewash. One that gently cleanses and exfoliates is good. And make sure it removes all the excess dirt off your face!
-Exfoliator- Removes dead skin cells and promotes cell renewal.
-Steam your face… It can open out your pores, and it's better if you put any source of vitamin in the boiling water before you use it. Like Vitamin C from lemons, but i wouldn't recommend lemons for dry skin… You get Vitamin tablets too- Vitamin E for acne scars.

¨¨¨Remember to always be gentle with your skin. It won't help if you scrub your skin until your fingers bleed.¨¨¨¨

Also… Don't stress over it, believe in yourself and think the spot will go, believe your skin will get clearer. It helps!

BTW i had a spot like that. So stingy… It was there for just over a week, that was when i started to drink more de-caffeinated green tea ( which is a natural source of anti-oxidants) and slept more. I even cleansed my face more than normal :). The thing is, when you sleep well your hormones are all over, so your less likely to break-out. There was once when i thought i was getting acne too -.- if only i took care of my skin from the very start.

Fast working acne treatment?

So I have tried everything from Proactiv to Clearasil, and given each product a minimum of a month and a half, but nothing works! Anyone have a fast-working home-made remedy?

Harsh cleaners and acne treatments will only damage your skin further. The acid in them strips your face from it's natural oil barrier and it ends up producing even more oil to try and protect itself. Trust me, I've tried everything too. The answer is to get rid of it naturally.

So what do I wash my face with? Raw, organic honey. How often? Only once a day.
My skin feels AMAZING after having the honey on it.

Acne is actually mainly an internal problem. It's caused by hormones going crazy. (this is why acne is so common in the teenage years) How do you get your hormones back in balance? Well, there's a lot of ways, and none of them require drugs or chemicals.

I'd strongly suggest checking out this website, it helped me SO much.

Best of luck. (:

Honey for acne treatment?

I heard honey works really well for getting rid of pimples fast. How would I go about this? What kind of honey/brand should I use? And how would I apply it? Do I have to put anything over my face when I put honey on?

ACNE is an embarrassing and burdensome problem to many and especially to teenagers. It is easy to feel that you don't have control over your breakouts. But the fact is, you do. I'm NOT going to recommend you to see your dermatologist. No. It is not always necessary. Natural remedies are more powerful too. Sometimes, all your body needs is the right nutritional balance and proper skin care. Here are some easy things you can start doing today to help you heal your acne. You should notice a difference in about 4 weeks.
Start drinking Aloe Vera juice and try Aloe Vera cream or Gel – to start with. Please do not expect any magical results with any of the treatments.
Apply a honey mask to your face once or twice a week – Honey has antibacterial properties & so it is great for disinfecting and healing minor blemishes. It is also gentle on sensitive skin.
Wash twice a day with acne soap – You should wash your face twice a day with a sulphur based soap designed for acne. Once when you first wake up in the morning and then, right before you go to bed at night. Be extremely gentle to your skin when washing – do not scrub or use any sort of rough cloth. Over washing your skin will actually stimulate your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, thus increasing your acne.
Keep your hair off your face – If you have long hair or bangs, pull your hair off your face. Your hair contains oils as well, and will contribute to your breakouts. You'll also want to wash your hair everyday and after workouts.
Take a potent multi-vitamin – Acne can be a sign that something is wrong on the inside. Your skin depends on nutrition. It is a vital organ that is usually neglected. If your body is not receiving the right nutrition, it will fight back. One common way it will rebel is to produce excessive sebum, clogging pores, and reducing the ability for your skin to heal and fight bacteria.
Include chromium in your diet – Chromium is well known for weight loss diets. But it is also excellent for healing infections on the skin. Taking a chromium supplement once a day will help heal your pimples quickly and prevent future breakouts.
Eat carrots for beta-carotene (Vitamin A) – Vitamin A strengthens the protective tissue of the skin and actually prevents acne. It helps reduce sebum production. This vitamin is essential for the maintenance and repair of the tissue which the skin and mucous membranes are made of. Vitamin A is also a powerful antioxidant needed to rid your body of toxins. Did you know that a deficiency in vitamin A can actually cause acne?
Avoid wearing makeup – Leaving makeup products on your skin only contributes to clogging your pores, causing more pimples and blackheads. If you feel you must wear makeup, be sure it is water-based.
Do not pick or squeeze your blackheads and pimples – As tempting as it may be, do not squeeze, scratch, rub or touch your pimples and blackheads. Do any of these actions, actually increases the sebum production. Plus, when you squeeze, you are actually rupturing the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath your skin. The result is more pimples.
Wash your pillow case every other day – Your face lays on your pillow case every day. Your pillow case absorbs the oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil, thus causing breakouts. Keep your sheets and pillow cases clean.
Eat foods rich in zinc – Zinc is an antibacterial agent and a necessary element in the oil-producing glands of the skin. A diet low in zinc can actually cause acne breakouts.
By far the most common teen-age skin disorder, acne usually begins at puberty, at a time when oil glands in the skin enlarge and increase the production of skin oil (sebum). This occurs as a result of rising hormones during adolescence. Ranging from simple pimples to angry boils, these unsightly blemishes that fall under the general heading of acne, will plague 9 out of 10 pubertal youngsters; an age when physical attractiveness becomes so important.

Blue Light Therapy Acne Treatment

Questions and Answers

Does anyone have any experience with blue light acne treatments?

I just got my blue light lamp in the mail today and I want to start using it tonight but I have my senior pictures tomorrow and I want to make sure the light wont make my face red for tomorrow…my skin isn't that sensitive but I've never used this kind of treatment before so i'm not sure how i'm going to react to it
does anyone have any experience with this?

Posted by mama222

The function of the blue light therapy is to eliminate the bacteria that causes acne and to remedy the provocative acne vulgaris that had ignored all other kinds of acne treatments. The side effects you will experience from blue-light therapy maybe moderate. Examples of which are momentary skin coloring alterations, puffiness of the area that had received the therapy and a little dryness on your skin. These side effects are side-stepped by a favorable result that will improve your condition to as much as 55% skin clarity.

Has anyone had experience with Blue Light Therapy for acne?

I've used ProActive, Differin, and other cleansers and creams and nothing seems to work for a long period of time. I wash my face morning and night and have very combo skin. My question is, Has anyone ever tried the new Blue Light therapy that I've been hearing about? Did you work for you, and did you have any side effects? Was it expensive? Thanks!
I'm 22, so by now I've done plenty of research and know all about acne and the different solutions (I've tried nearly all of them!) but my question remains to be answered. I'm not looking for pills as a solution or for information on acne as a whole, I am looking for answers from people who have DIRECT EXPERIENCE WITH BLUE LIGHT THERAPY. If this does not apply to you, please do not waste my time in answering. Thank you!

List of Prescription Acne Medication

Questions and Answers

Prescription acne medication?

I'm almost 16 so i know acne is "just gonna happen". But this is getting ridiculous. I don't have severe cystic acne, but enough to have low self esteem issues. I've used neutrogena, clean and clear, cetaphil, and clearisil, all with no help. I've used acne treatment gels, with the same minimal result.

I've used tea tree oil, and proactiv both of which are EXTREMELY drying. Proactiv burnt my skin and after I stopped using it, (used for about 3 months) my skin got a lot worse. I switched to tea tree oil which is also extremely drying and similar to proactiv, if I don't use it for 1 day, my skin looks horrible.

I used to get nasty white heads on my chin and around my mouth and upper lip, which have stopped but have been replaced with small bumps, some not visible to the naked eye, all over my face. I get red zits that aren't popable and leave scars. What can a doctor do for me at this point?
I use the neutrogena wave now which makes the small areas of my cheek, that are unaffected by acne, really soft. But I need a real solution, I've used home remedies as well. I don't want to use something that I'll have to use for the rest of my life. With proactiv and tea tree oil, if you stop using it, you become worse than what you started with.

Home remedies for the treatment of acne
Two very good acne treatments you can do at home: Take the pulp from ripe tomatoes and apply it your skin. Let it sit there for an hour and a half and then wash off.

Mix lemon juice and tomatoe pulp and apply to clean skin till dry then rinse with cool water.

Boiled milk and fresh lime juice can be used to wash your face. Lime is a natural cleanser used in many soaps and milk will help to add many nutrients to your skin and help to prevent the skin from drying out excessively. Take a whole food supplement like a green drink. Green drinks can be found at most health food stores and even at supermarkets. They have an alkalizing effect on your body which help to reduce internal toxicity which in turn can help to reduce your acne.

Take fenugreek leaves and make a fine paste out of it and then apply it to your entire face. This will help with healing some of your existing acne eruptions and will also help with stopping new acne and blackheads. Take some fresh garlic and rub it around the affected areas. This helps to get rid or your current acne but you need to be consistent and do it regularly for at least a few weeks.

1.Try using witch hazel and lemon juice as an astringent. If you have oily skin and believe this exacerbates your acne or pimples, as the bacteria underneath, which has already clogged your pores, has trouble being released due to excess oil on the skin’s surface level, witch hazel and lemon juice are an all-natural remedy to remove excess oil from your skin. You can find organic witch-hazel at Vitamin Shoppe (www.vitaminshoppe.com). Lemon juice can be found at your local grocer.
2.Drink more tea. Tea has extremely effective skin-healing, purifying, and antioxidant properties that have been proven to aid in acne and acne scar reduction. Red tea and chamomile tea have particularly been found to be therapeutic in reducing acne, acne scars, whiteheads, and blackheads. Additionally, chamomile has been found to stop acne, especially in the essential oil form because of its powerful effects. Celestial Seasonings (www.celestialseasonings.com) makes both chamomile and red teas and they cost relatively little. Drink about 2-3 cups a day. Your acne-prone skin will thank you. You can also add honey and lemon, which both are great for skin health and acne.
3.Remove excess oils, dirt, toxins, and free radicals from Your Skin. Exfoliating is a must for anyone who has acne, pimples, or acne scars. The key, however, is not too overscrub your acne and to find a gentle acne cleanser. Look for a scrub that is all natural and contains scar and acne healing ingredients, such as lemon, baking soda, orange, chamomile, aloe vera, and salicylic acid.
4.Make an all natural acne-eliminating potion. Wash your face 2 times a day with the following: 1 tablespoon of witch hazel, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of brewed green Tea, and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Your skin should show a difference.
5.Steam your face. Hold your face over a basin of warm, not scalding hot water for 1-2 minutes. Then place cold ice cubes on your pores. This will tighten your pores and help your acne.

Why some home remedies are no good for acne:

1. Papaya mask (or any other fruit mask)…. Not effective. Better to be eaten to help with your body's detoxification.

2. Toothpaste. Tried it. The effectiveness was okay. But that's all. If you use this everyday, YOUR SKIN WILL SUFFER! From all the dryness and etc it causes.

Lemon juice is great for acne. The way you described in your question is one way to use it to cure acne. But to get more out of each piece of your lemon, drink some lemon juice frequently and let it rejuvenate your skin. The vitamins it contains are just great for your skin and acne.

BEST ACNE REMEDIES: Most of them wont work, some do.

-fruits mostly are all great for acne. Eat them regularly and you are treating your acne naturally already.
- ginger and garlic. Improve your immune system. Regulate hormone secretion and anti-inflammatory properties mean reduced redness.

I won't recommend people to use home remedies to get rid of their acne. Sometimes, people try to get too clever and try all sorts of things with their household items and end up getting their acne to worsen A LOT.

Best 3 Acne Products

Questions and Answers

Acne products for T-Zone skin ? :3?

Within the past year & a half, my face started breaking out on my forehead, nose bridge, nose, & chin. Its really embarrassing ! I tried proactiv & neutrogena grapefruit & neither of them worked ! My skin is sensitive. I put toothpaste on a pimple on my nose last year and it made a dark leathery patch of skin where the pimple was. I had to use some kind of lotion on it so it would fall off (sorry if thats disgusting !). Please help me. I have scars on my forehead and chin from old breakouts.. Are there any products that help with both ? Anything I can buy at Wal-Mart ? Thatd be most helpful ! & please no home remedies.. I've tried way too many. I just want a product. Thanks !

Neem oil: It is powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties, beneficial to those who suffer from various skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin ulcers, helps one treat hair related problems like dandruff and itchy scalp. Dental care products like toothpaste, mouth washes and rinses all use the neem oil's antiseptic properties to keep teeth health and gums free of infection. It is the same price as some of the acne medications, either prescribe or over-the-counter.

Acne products?

I was wondering if using more than one acne product at the same time is bad.

I'm currently using pro-active (which hasn't been working for me I've been using it for 2 years.), clearasil vanishing cream, and clearasil ultra acne clearing scrub.

I'm wondering if using all of these at once is bad? If so, which one should I continue using and how often?

As a licensed Master Esthetician, doing facials is one of my specialties, so hopefully I can give you a helpful answer.
First off, it would take an expert actually looking at your skin in person to determine the real problem here.
With that said, here is some advice:
(1) If Proactive, or anything, for that matter, hasn't been working, and you've been using it for 2 years, it's time to toss.
(2) It is not necessarily bad to combine different product brands, it's just about using the combo that works for you. Obviously you aren't, or you wouldn't be asking the question.
(3) Clearasil tends to be drying. Are you breaking out, or is your skin dry and flaky, or possibly both? What can happen, is, when you are using something that is too dry or irritable for your skin, your skin will counteract by producing more oil, which can , in turn, cause flakiness, more acne, and dry, dead skin. Big mess.
(4) Be sure you are using a good moisturizer, no matter how oily your skin is. Everyone needs face lotion, I don't care who you are.
(5) If money isn't an issue, consider stepping up your products a notch. It's worth the investment to try a skin care line such as Sonya Dakar (sonyadakar.com). Excellent acne products. I used to work for her.

So, to conclude, using all of the products at once isn't bad if it works for you, but it clearly isn't working since you said it isn't. Consider the possibility that it may be too much for your skin to handle, and if you can, upgrade the type of line you are using. It makes a HUGE difference (that is, after you get over the initial cost anxiety if you aren't used to spending that much cash on a 4-oz lotion).

Yes it will cover the medications. Here are some tips that might be helpful:
1) Tea Tree Oil
2) Lemon juice
3) Apple cider vinegar
4) Bamboo extract

Tea tree oil is a popular home remedy for acne. It is an essential oil that is diluted and applied topically to acne lesions.

How is tea tree oil believed to work? Tea tree oil contains a constituent called terpinen-4-ol that's thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's anti-bacterial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions is believed to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria involved in acne.

Applied lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to face or you can drink it through using it in water a few drops a day. Will help with both acne, and scars as well. Also another way you can get rid of acne is by taking bamboo extract something I started when I had the problem really does work. Hope this works for you.

OR: Here are seven best methods to clear up blemishes.

Tea-Tree Oil
To treat mild, occasional breakouts.
How it works: Distilled from the leaves of an Australian shrub, tea-tree oil contains antibacterial and anti-microbial compounds called terpenoids that help kill the bacteria that, when trapped behind oil in a plugged pore, lead to acne breakouts. Try Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick ($8, burtsbees.com). A roller-ball tube makes for easy application.

Studies testing tea-tree oil against the gold-standard acne treatment, benzoyl peroxide, have shown that while the latter works more quickly, tea-tree oil is equally effective over time. And it results in fewer annoying side effects—namely, dryness and redness.

If you have sensitive skin.
How it works: A time-tested, gentle acne fighter, sulfur “acts like a sponge to draw oil out of blocked pores,”. This dries up pimples and keeps sebum production in check, helping to prevent future blemishes.

Sulfur has a distinct smell—think rotten eggs. Most preparations that use it contain a masking fragrance. However, to play it safe (and avoid scaring off coworkers), apply these products at night.

Salicylic Acid
To treat and soothe red, inflamed blemishes.
Salicylic acid can have a calming, anti-inflammatory effect on pimples. “It also breaks down the ‘cement’ between cells in clogged pores to help unplug them,”

Salicylic acid is less irritating than more potent treatments, so it may be better for those with dry skin. It also tends to work well on stubborn blackheads.

Benzoyl Peroxide
To spot-treat a blemish fast.
How it works: This top acne treatment is an antibacterial agent, killing the bacteria that cause pimples to form, says Gross. Because benzoyl peroxide is so powerful, it helps blemishes go down quickly; just make sure to use a non-comedogenic moisturizer first to minimize dryness. Initially, it can cause dryness and redness. Also, “it bleaches towels and clothes,”.

Nightly to prevent breakouts.
How they work: Retinoids, which include over-the-counter retinol and prescription-strength Retin-A, reduce acne by altering the oil chemistry on the skin. “They help stop dense sebum from getting stuck within the pores,” says Gross. Without oil deposits, bacteria can’t grow and cause blemishes. Since retinoids can make skin sensitive to the sun, doctors recommend using them at night (and being diligent about wearing sunscreen during the day). To avoid irritation, apply every other evening to start, gradually working up to nightly use. Bonus benefit: Retinoids have been shown to increase collagen production and plump fine lines, making them a good choice if you’re dealing with acne and wrinkles.

Blue-Light Therapy
If you want the latest preventive treatment—and don’t mind plunking down some cash for it.
How it works: Once or twice a week, you use a handheld device to aim a beam of blue light onto your skin. “Its wavelength hits and kills acne-causing bacteria,” so any brewing pimples never come to the surface.

This method will not address existing blemishes. Doctors typically suggest combining blue-light therapy with other remedies, such as topical treatments. To make things easy, consider a blue-light device that comes in a kit. At-home devices are smart alternatives to multiple costly treatments at a doctor’s office.

Oral Antibiotics
If you experience painful bumps below the skin surface and your pimples leave lasting marks. “Oral antibiotics act from the inside to kill the bacteria that cause acne,” says Keri. They also reduce the inflammation associated with pimples, so deep-seated blemishes hurt less and leave fewer scars.

Doctors usually prescribe them to get a severe condition under control and may then switch to topical treatments. Some antibiotics must be taken on an empty stomach, so read the label carefully.http://www.realsimple.com/beauty-fashion/skincare/face/ways-to-treat-acne-00000000038296/page9.html.

Acne is actually a visual detoxification of the body. So acne is the result of the body trying to get rid of toxins in the body. Putting more toxins on the body can help with the symptoms but not the cause. I suggest the natural way below, which I have seen work almost 100% of the time for those actually committed to it. I struggled with acne even until my late 20’s and never realized why I was having such problems.

Allergies is one of the primary causes to acne. Many people don’t even know they have allergies to certain foods, because the symptoms are not as visible or known. There are nutrients that exist for most food allergies. Acne is also a telltale sign of toxic blood. Purification of the blood by correcting the allergies in it, will correct the acne condition.

Another cause of acne is constipation, which again, builds up toxins in the intestines. So it is always important when struggling with acne to have good bowel movements. The key is to restore levels of organic sodium and potassium in the body through eating many different RAW fruits and vegetables. Be sure to eat many foods with high levels of fiber as well. You should get fiber from natural sources to produce good bowel movements. I have seen chronic acne clear up within 1 week of eating large amounts of blood cleansing fruits and veggies.

For example, Dairy products produce the most allergies of almost any other food. Being chronically tired, for example, can be an allergic symptom. To combat this allergy you can take the following vitamins and minerals: Vitamin D, Potassium, Amino Acids – Aspartic Acid and Aparagine and through bee pollen, alfalfa and hawthorn berries.

Check out the book Ultimate Healing System by Dr. Donald Lepore for more info. This stuff really works. I personally can attest to it.

Yes, I have experience.

First, start with the products you do use. Have you added anything to your arsenal recently that could be causing the problem? Are you overstripping. Only use one acne product at a time. I fell into this trap before. You could be stripping your skin of all of its oil, resulting in over-production, which equals more acne. Prevention is better than treatment. Trust me. I have much less of an issue when I take proper care of my skin in the first place!

Here is what works for me:
1. Cetaphil facial cleanser (recommended by my dermatologist) for am and pm use. Make sure to wash twice a day.
2. Make sure you exfoliate at least once a week. This removes dead skin cells that can clog pores.
3. Use "cleaner" make-up. I love my Bare Essentuals, it doesn't clog my pores.
4. Use a gentle moisturizer in the am.
5. Add an acne product designed for your particular issue. Blackheads? Try Clean & Clear's astringent for blackheads. For traditional acne the products are endless, you may have to try a few before you get the one that works best for you. Oh, and if you want to use an acne wash, only use it once a day. Use a gentle cleanser, such as cetephil, for the second wash of the day.

For my acne, I got a cream from my dermatologist. It is called Differin and is very affordable. If you can't get it under control with a good regimine and over-the-counter products, consult your dermatologist.
